Virginia Main Street Upgrade

  • Undergrounding of Power Lines to Commence

Works will now commence on the undergrounding of the power lines in late March.  This represents the first stage of the Main Street Upgrade.

The trenching of the underground cable along the road carriage is expected to be the most disruptive part of the works and will commence in mid-April.  The trenching will take around four months to complete.  Work will primarily occur during weekdays 7am - 5:30pm.  The temporary closure of sections of road will occur, with traffic management put in place.

The remaining elements will be undertaken over a further two to four month period.  These works will include:

    • Connection of individual properties to the new power network
    • Removal of stobie poles, street lights and overhead power lines
    • Installation of new street lighting

SA Power Networks will manage the project and have engaged a civil contractor, Noone Nominees, to undertake works on their behalf.  Power outages will be required at several stages during the project.  SA Power Networks will notify account holders in writing, with at least four working days’ notice on each occasion.
