The City of Playford is seeking your feedback on proposed updates to the Community Engagement Policy and Procedure.
The proposed updates align with the Community Engagement Charter under the Local Government Act 1999, which sets new requirements for how South Australian councils engage with their communities.
We encourage you to take a look at the proposed changes and provide your feedback by 19 July 2026.
Council's current Community Engagement Policy and Procedure were reviewed with community input and adopted in June 2025.
Since then, changes to the Local Government Act 1999 have introduced a new Community Engagement Charter (you can download the Charter from the Document Library on the right-hand side of this page). The Charter replaces the previous legislative framework with a more structured approach to community engagement by setting out engagement principles, categories of engagement and the minimum requirements that apply to all South Australian councils.
The Charter introduces the following categories of community engagement:

Councils are required to adopt a Community Engagement Policy that aligns with the Charter by 11 September 2026. This review updates Council's Policy and Procedure to meet those requirements.
The Document Library includes the proposed Policy and Procedure (with and without tracked changes), along wtih the Community Engagement Charter published in the South Australian Government Gazette. You can refer to these documents for more detailed information, including the Charter's minimum engagement requirements.
Council's overall approach to community engagement is not changing. The current Policy and Procedure already reflect the key principles of the Community Engagement Charter, including meaningful opportunities for community participation, the use of plain language, engagement methods that are appropriate to the decision being made, and providing information about how community feedback has been considered.
The proposed updates are designed to align the documents with new legislative requirements while building on Council's existing approach to community engagement.
The proposed updates include:
