California Reserve Upgrade

Project Overview

Council has received funding from the Federal Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and has decided to upgrade four parks.

California Reserve on California Avenue in Craigmore is one of these parks.

A draft concept has been prepared and the community are now invited to provide feedback on the design.

California Reserve is located next to shops, bus stop and pedestrian trail.  It has basketball hoops, irrigated grass, signage and a playspace which has come to the end of its life.  It also has mature trees which provide shade and habitat.  The upgrade of this reserve will create a welcoming neighbourhood reserve in an existing communitiy destination.

The concept includes the following features:

  • New play space including all-abilities equipment and nature play
  • A loop trail around the reserve
  • Fitness equipment
  • Shelters, picnic tables and BBQs
  • Public lighting and drinking fountain

The concept design aims to:

  • Enhance recreation opportunities
  • Improve accessibiliy and appearance
  • Keep to the available budget
  • Protect trees and their root systems
  • Provide appropriate 'fall zone' distances between play equipment
  • Align with Council's Open Space Guidelines which identifies the facilities that are suitable for different types of parks
