Burdell Reserve Upgrade

Project Overview

Council has received funding from the Federal Government's Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and has decided to upgrade four parks.

Burdell Reserve on Burdell Street in Elizabeth Downs is one of these parks.

A draft concept has been prepared and the community are now invited to provide feedback on the design.

Burdell Reserve is a large reserve at around 10,000 square metres in size.  It has many mature trees which provide shade and habitat but its existing facilities are in poor condition.  It is a short distance from Hamblynn Road and the Elizabeth Downs Shopping Centre, Elizbeth Rise Community Centre and bus stops.

The concept includes the following features:

  • New play space including all-abilities equipment
  • Nature play
  • Basketball key and four square court
  • New pedestrian pathways through the reserve with public lighting
  • A loop trail around the reserve
  • Fitness equipment
  • Irrigated 'kick about' space
  • Sheltered picnic tables and BBQs
  • New reserve signage

The concept design aims to:

  • Enhance recreation opportunities
  • Improve accessibiliy and appearance
  • Keep to the available budget
  • Protect trees and their root systems
  • Provide appropriate 'fall zone' distances between play equipment
  • Align with Council's Open Space Guidelines which identifies the facilities that are suitable for different types of parks
